Cyclists be aware.
Be Conspicuous! Drive Defensively! Remain Alert!
Cycle in traffic safely and predictably:
- Learn the skills needed to control your bike.
- Obey traffic control devices and signal your intentions
with hand signals.
- Position yourself - the safest place for a cyclist is
to the right of center one meter from the curb, unless you
are negotiating a left turn, and then you should assume
the lane and be left of center.
- Ride single-file when cycling with others.
Be visible:
- Use a headlight and rear light between dusk and dawn
- Use a reflector on your rear fender
- Wear brightly colored clothing, especially after dark.
Wear a helmet:
- Wearing a helmet became mandatory in BC, in 1996. Not
wearing a helmet may result in a fine.
- Bike helmets alone could prevent up to 85% of serious
injuries.
Looking for other options?
- Now you can cycle to work and take the bus home. Most
Vernon and Area buses are now equipped with bike racks.
To learn how to use the rack, view the short animation at
www.busonline.ca
or call transit for more information at 545-7221.
